This post has been months in the making! It is dedicated to our dear friend and business associate Julie Pritchard from Whyte Ridge Academy Florists.
We met Julie about 18 months ago and there was an instant connection! Madeline’s Weddings is all about cutting edge, new, fun, different and daring. And well, that is to a tee what we were looking for in a florist. When we plan and coordinate our weddings it is so important that the flowers and decor go hand in hand.
Recently, I caught up with Julie and asked her some of the questions all of you are dying to know the answers to.
Here you are…
Q. When should couples book their flowers?
A. Couples should book their flowers after they have picked out the reception location, brides dress and the bridesmaids dresses. It’s important to have the bridesmaids dresses picked so that we can come up with color theme that matches throughout the whole wedding day. The sooner the bride can come see us, the earlier we can help come up with a floral theme to carry throughout the whole day.
Q.What’s hot and what’s not?
A. What’s hot this season is lighting your floral table centers and large decor flowers thought the room. We have led lights that shine up from the bottom of your floral table center to led lights that we hang thought out the flowers. Unique lighting options add a wow factor to any flowers arrangement.
Another unique trend is customizing your wedding bouquet. At Whyte Ridge Academy Florist we have many options from adding crystals, rhinestones and pearls into and on your flowers in the bouquet. You can make your bouquet sparkle with a specialty handle cover that is completely covered in rhinestones, or just add a touch with square and round rhinestone broaches. We can add accents to any bouquet to match your theme, we have used peacock feathers, seashells, snowflakes and many other accents to make your bouquet a one of a kind.
Something to stay away from is going over board and trying to mix too many elements together. For your special day pick one maybe two trendy elements to mix in with your flowers to come up with a unique but still classy looking floral theme.
Q. In your opinion what are some up and coming trends for 2009?
A. Up and coming trends for 2009 would include using blue flowers and white to keep a clean fresh look. We have beautiful blue roses and blue dendrob orchids that look amazing with crisp white flowers. One of my favorite flowers for this wedding season is chocolate brown orchids, they are such a rich color and mix well with many other color groups. Another trend for 2009 is using your table center as a very important part of decorating the reception. Having a large flower table center adds a dramatic effect to the reception room. we can make short or tall table centers that look dramatic and still don’t interfere with people trying to see each other or have a conversation. At Whyte Ridge Academy Florist we like to come up different table centers to match the brides bouquet and the theme of the wedding day.
And there you have it!
We had such an AMAZING season with Julie and we are so looking forward to our upcoming weddings with you Jules! YOU SIMPLY ROCK GIRL!
