Do It Yourself projects have become incredibly popular for weddings and we are all for it to save some money where you can but proceed with caution! We love a fun painted bottle or jar, ribbon and lace accents wrapped centerpieces, or hand carved wood details but some things should just be left to the professionals! Here is our opinion on what NOT to try and do yourself for your big day!
Photography and/or videography – With the technology accessible to us these days everyone can be a photographer or videographer, that doesn’t mean you should rely on Uncle Bob with his sweet iPhone to capture the most important day of your life. A professional will know how to handle your bridal party and family, what lighting will be the most complimentary and be alert for each precious moment. Your wedding photos and video will be something you cherish for the rest of your lives, don’t pinch pennies when it comes to capturing your wedding day.
Music – It’s really easy to create a great playlist on your phone but that doesn’t mean it should be used to get the party started at your reception. As with every other industry professional, a band or DJ has the knowledge and experience to create the perfect entertainment for your wedding. They can gauge the crowd, take requests and change up the music based off their assessment. You don’t want to be responsible or delegate someone else the responsibility of doing this during your wedding, leave it to the professionals.
Food – The food is one of the most important aspects of your wedding, whether you see it that way or not. Your guests may not remember your wedding colours or what song you walked down the aisle to but they will remember the food, good or bad! Although you, a relative or friend may be the perfect party host, taking on the task of catering for a wedding is a completely different ball game. The food all has to be ready at the same time, kept hot, and be plentiful and this can be a very overwhelming responsibility. A professional catering company will have mastered this and will be able to know how much food to make for your guest count and how to cook and serve it accordingly.
Coordinating on the day of – No matter how many friends and family members have offered to help on the day of, nothing will compare to the assistance and guidance of a professional Coordinator. We already discussed all of the reasons why in our last post but keep in mind that a paid professional will take great care to ensure your wedding is exactly as you envisioned and won’t miss any detail, no matter how small or simple.
Happy planning everyone!
