We’re back with another Planning 101- this time we are offering some ideas of how to keep kids busy and entertained at the reception! So lets face is, sometimes dinner and speeches last longer than any adult is comfortable sitting through, imagine being a child and being told not to yell, run or play for 2+ hours, that would seem impossible! So here are some of our tried and true ways to keep the kids busy until the dancing starts!
Providing kids bags is a great way to entertain the little ones, these can include such things as puzzles, colouring or activity books or little toys. Keep in mind that if you are including toys that they don’t have any sounds! You can also go online to find some print at home colouring or activity books, then you just need to include some crayons and voila, instant entertainment! This DIY activity book from Lovely Indeed is one of our favourites: http://lovelyindeed.com/diy-activity-book-free-printable/
If your venue allows and the children are old enough you can also bring in some board games or puzzles. It’s not the same as an iPad by any means but most kids can still be kept busy with some good old fashioned board games! You may also be able to have a kids craft area set up with simple, no-glue-required crafts! One of our couples had a separate banquet table set up covered entirely in a sheet of paper so the kids could draw and craft right there and they were entertained for the entire dinner and speeches portion of the reception it was perfect, we highly recommend it!
If you are having a photobooth at your wedding you can also consider having it run for an extended hour during the dinner and speeches portion of the evening strictly for the kids! Stock it full of fun props from the dollar store and they will have a blast taking photos with their friends!
Happy Planning! xo
